Ok, now that I have my K1000 its time for an amp. So far it looks like I will have around 400-500$ to spend . I also want to buy a DAC at the same time, and the headroom home dac looks nice. What would you guys reccomend in that price range for amps. Im not trying to get the absolute full potential out of the K1000's, only make them pleasureable to listen to.

In your price range I would go fisher kx100 of hh scott 222 intergrated amps. You will use the speaker taps at 16ohms if that particular year had one.
A few pluses with this choice is great tube sound couple with a fair amount of detail as well. You get a standard headphone jack on most, not all of these and could double as a speaker amp.
In a dedicated amp maybe the MF X-Can, there is not much at that price that will drive them other than a vintage intergrated or receiver amp.

The DarkVoice 332 is still a headphone amp and will probably be lacking power for the K1000. The Big Joe will do a better job driving them as they really need more power than the Darkvoice can deliver.

I drive mine with a 70's vintage Marantz. It's better than my modern Kenwood and digital Panny.

If any of you will be attending the upcoming Headfest 2007 in San Jose, I will be bringing my β22 amp. During portions of the meet I will bring the amp to the dedicated K1000 room for auditioning, and the rest of the time it will be at my reserved table in the main room. This is a high-end DIY amp and has plenty of power for the K1000. It should be interesting to hear your impressions.

strungout, i'd suggest looking into the rather attractive little dot 3+ amp. it's got plenty of power to drive k1000s and can do a respectable job of it.
