Hey guys, looking at amps for the hd800 and i can't really decide what to get. Looking at the valhalla 2 but i heard they're kinda lifeless and neutral for the hd800's. Would prefer a warmish sound. Also been told of the bottlehead crack but unfortunately i don't know how to solder. Are there any other reccomendations around the price range?

Matrix HPA-2 should work very well.

Otherwise, sell HD800 and pick a late T1 v1.
(straight forward route to a similarly detailed and open but warmer sound)

pickup a vintage receiver and forget about amps

Well, that's always an option. Receivers normally have a really high output impedance which interacts with HD800's impedance (big bump in the mid bass) resulting in a warmer sound.

A bit of EQ can yield similar results
