If the amp is weak the sound will be thin, the highs will sound like fly buzz and almost no lows. HD650's should sound very full and believable when driven properly and you listen to them. An amp is almost crucial with high impedance, high quality headphones.

The FIGARO is a great little amp with the HD650s. I'm listening to it now and it drives them with complete authority. Super entry level tube amp. But I hear DARKVOICE have stopped making it.
