currently have Shure 846, and i want to upgrade to Fiio M11.

have been using Ipod classic + Fiio A3

but now i have some disposable income

or will i need an external amp?

what should i look ?

i would also like to use this portable amp on my desktop.

no budget but want less $1,000 unless there is "need" to spend over that, unless its do it all kind of "amp"

id like to take it for travels, and if im at home, use it for my pc.

I have a pair of HD800 and my Fiio X5iii used to drive them quite acceptable. Based on specs, I guess the M11 should also do a decent job.

For a spectacular sound I suggest you try the Hiby R6 Pro. Works like a champ for me, with a balanced 4.4 Kimberly cable adapted for the HD800.

Never had the chance ro listen to M11. Will do it when it arrives to my local Fiio dealer. Plan to go there soon to listen to FH7.

The JDS Lab Atom or a Headamp product. HD800s is not a hard amp to drive, its not as picky as the original HD800 either...

JDS lab also have DAC, or an all in one. try those first, see what your preference as far as sound goes, cant really give you a recommendation since everyone ear is different.

R2R dac working well here. From AB tests it's less harsh than my laptop output. Also more power etc. You can probably do better than iPod for HD800.

I use a FiiO M15 for my HD 800S and it works great. I can't comment on the tech specs but let me just say I get a very very good quality sound at 1/3 vol with gain level set at low.

Really. Wow. Ok so at what volume is it too loud for you? 75%? I ask because I am actually looking at the M15 but can’t demo one so before I buy I wanna be sure. I have a bunch of headsets but no portable player. The M15 is at the top of my budget to be honest but if it’s worth it I’m sold.
