After a great deal of research, including scrolling through these forums for hours, I purchased Audio-Technica a700s for my first foray into the world of highend headphones. I'm planning on using them for gaming and DVD watching and I can't wait for them to arive (supposedly today). That said, in doing my research I stumbled upon a considerable amount of discussion on headphone amps and now the possibility is nagging at me.
My primary question is: would there be noticable benefit to using an amp with the a700s connected to my soundcard (Audigy 2 ZS)? I would think that any 'phones could benefit from amplification but I've read reports that the a900s don't.
If so, recommendations (I think a $60 cap is reasonable in light of the cost of the 'phones)?
Lastly--and this one's a stretch--anyone aware of any stores in midtown NYC (preferably close to Columbus Circle) where I might be able to purchase a headphone amp in-store?
Thanks!
