I got my hd580s. I've listened to them on my sharp md player(mt90) on about the 23 setting out of 30, and I can hear fine. I've use them out of my sb live. They get loud enough for me. I'll be finishing my cmoy soon, but will I need it?

yes

if they're as hard to drive as a HD570, they won't even sound similar when used with an amp. I tried it.

I second all of the "yes" votes in this thread - quality, not quantity, is the key word in this case. andrzejpw, though your HD 580/PMDP (Portable MiniDisc Player) combo may sound loud enough to your ears, the quality of the output (or should I call that sound quality?) is nowhere near the potential of the HD 580's!
