I have been following the Metal thread, but also like Ambient music. So i thought it would be nice to have a thread for Ambient music as well. Looking for recommendations and what everyone is listening to. Thanks!

Yesss! An ambient music thread! <3

My favorite ambient artist is Steve Roach. He has a ridiculously extensive discography.

You can listen to samples from his albums there.

And I shared some of his free downloads here:

Yay, I've wanted to start an ambient/drone/noise/EAI/etc. thread for a long time, but never got around to it.

I just bought this one.

I have a question for you, but it's off-topic, so I'll put it in a spoiler.

Why is it impossible for me to PM you? I tried awhile ago and failed. I tried again today and it just sends the PM to myself instead of you. I was trying to recommend anime to you. If I can't do it via PM, tell me how to contact you without making off-topic posts in threads. haha

I sent you a friend request on MyAnimeList. You can message me there.

i'll just leave here 3-4 must have ambient masterpieces - the backbone of any serious ambient collection.

Brian Eno - Ambient 4 : On Land (best Eno album, imho)
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 2 (85-92 gets the hype, but this is his magnum opus)
Future Sound of London - Lifeforms (genius stuff)
Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden / Laughing Stock ( not really ambient , but masterpiece nevertheless)

All fantastic albums, but only the Eno and Aphex are properly ambient I'd argue. Lifeforms is more 'ambient techno' - purely ambient at times, but also quite a few beat-oriented tracks. Everything you mentioned is great though. SAW2 is in its way darker than a lot of stuff specifically billed as dark ambient; brilliantly unsettling.

Ambient 4 is my favorite in the "Ambient" series as well, Ambient 1 being close second.
