Call me strange but i really dont know why everybody think the AKG K81's are great headphones!
IMO they are very bass heavy, undetailed, they have an enourmous lack of high-mid's and total absence of tones in the upper spectrum.
They completly sound unbalanced, especially with music with female vocals, i thought the Sony EX71's had troubles with it, the K81 makes it even worse by making the bass overshadow erverything.
I also have the Creative HQ-1700 wich is an rebranded ATH-FC7, they are to my ears a lot better, still the mid and high bass' make the phones very undetailed but they dont color the music as the K81's do.
I've heard only the still-fresh-from-the-shop-K81's, no recable, no other mods, just stock.
Am i the only one here who thinks like this or are the K81 only great when you do some silver recabling?
