Hi folks, I'm looking for a good portable headphone for bus travelling and to fit the sansaclip. I'm kinda sold to the AT sound as I have AD900 and M40fs at home and they sound very good to me. The thing is it seems hard to find anything like those for portable use. ES7 dont get very good reviews and ESW9 are way too expensive... the k26p arent bad but just suck according to me for anything not electronic. Any other balanced cans for 100 dollars? It seems there isnt lot of demand for this kind of headphones as there are very few it seems... and please no in-ear phones, I just cant stand anything like this.

Thanks!

Consider the Denon d1000 and Equation Audio RP-21. The latter will isolate well, and the former won't but is much more comfortable and the better overall performer in terms of SQ. Both are ~$100 (check out the thread I just made about the denon... $99.77 @ amazon)

I was and still is on the same boat as you. Jumping from K26 to K81dj, finally decided and bought ATH-ES7. Like you already wrote ESW9 are way to expensive and not really good for ROCK and stuf like that, so ES7 are more flexible at that point. From what I have read it they need some time to burn before they will shine, so I will hear it myself pretty soon.

X2 ES-7s, when I had them, took around 200 hours burn-in to sound good.
It tends to get bad issues because of its comfort issue, which can be fixed by a headband mod. They're a great value at 100$ - only 'phones that has better bang for buck would be Grado SR80- which shines for rock but does awful for slower stuff like jazz and classical music. I sold my pair while ago, I think I'm going for another pair, honestly I miss it

well considering my K701s required around 500-600 hours to be fully burned in... I can stand 200 hours

it was 200 hours of music listening at normal volume - I guess it would be faster burn-in if I used pink noise at that time

Remember no one deserves the pain to hear my music when it's on... so they need to be closed...

Wait - LOL - I have the ES7's and the SR-80's. The SR-80's are great for rock, but the ES7 is great for most. Then the ATH-701's some in for the classical/acoustic.

I think I have found a great trio....now to just get some k501's, k701's, AT-W1000.....*leads to R10's and Leatherheads*

I would reccomend the ES7's if you like mids w/ involving sound.
D1000 if you like comfort.
RP-21 if you want bass.

check this thread out. says there that d1000 sound is pretty much superior to the other 2 you mentioned, but they accel in their own areas. Try to find a place in canada were you can demo those cans.
