  How would  the DT880s 250-Ohms stand up against the HP 100 and A900X?

I do prefer to use open headphones, and the DT880 are my preferred open headphones (a few might consider the treble a little bright).

I have never owned anything but closed headphones. Is it worth checking out? I do live with other people currently, so if it is fully open (arent the DT880s half open?) it may be a problem.
I currently have an ASUS Xonar DX sound card, so I am covered as far as a DAC goes. I have already purchased the PCB for the O2 amp that I will be building, so that should also be covered. I do not need to drive these headphones with my phone as I have my old ATH-M50s which I plan to use for mobile use.
So in your opinion is it fair to say that:
DT 880 > HP 100 > A900X?
I certainly like the bass on the A900Xs, however, I had the M50s previously so I haven't had anything with similar bass to the DT 880s you describe.
For clarification, are we talking about the DT 880 pros or premium?
Have you had the AKG K550s? Do they fit anywhere in this lineup for you?

The ATH-A900X sound might improve when plugged them into the O2 amplifier, instead of straight into the Xonar DX.
DT880 Pro 250-Ohm and DT880 Premium 250-Ohm are 98% the same.
The AKG K550 are a little less warm and a little more detached sounding then the A900X, but I do like the sound of the K550s (prefer the A900Xs a little more).
The K550s are very easy sounding, so good choice for wearing closed headphones for long periods of time.

The K550 are a good choice, but you need to wear them and make sure they actually seal against your head. If the seal is broken they sound anemic, but if your lucky enough to get a perfect fir they are excellent headphones!

  From what I have read, it seems as though the HP 100s are the best option I have. Their bass is a bit nicer than the DT880s and they are closed. In all other areas they seem about equivalent.
 
My only concern was that one reviewer thought they did poor with the Objective 2 amp. I could not find anyone else with both to comment on.

Hmm My Sound Magic HP 100 was on the Cold side as well, Cold headphones don't always sound nice with equally Cold Amps. When I first started out, I like my Cold Cans with Warm Tubes ;3
 
And I mainly used the HP 100 with Warm sources when I had it, never got to hear it out of my NFB10ES2 which is on the Cold side

The dt 880 is open and not much like the 900x if you REALLY like the 900x sound signiture, and you can handle open headphones, then go with the DT 990 Pro 250

I am not that into the ATH-A900Xs, not sure if it is because of seal, or them overall. I certainly prefer the M50s. So will the HP 100s or the DT 880s be the better option?

The DT 990 will be ur best option imo

If you like the M50 and want to keep it's bass the DT 990 is the way to go, I owned both for about 6 months, and while I kept the DT 880, the 990 is good for users who owned cans like the ATH M50 or other bass heavy headphones, as it improves greatly upon that sound that your used to. Now if you want something completey different than the DT 880 is a great headphone
 
and imo, the only flaw to the DT 990 was teh bass, for some genres like Rock I found them too bassy for my tastes, how ever for EDM and classical, along with Jazz they where excellent

So after evaluating the need for sound isolation, I think I need closed cans. Is there something a bit warmer than the HP 100s that would go well with the O2 Amp? I may be pushing my luck, as it seems the DT770 is only marginally better than the M50s.

Actually try to get ahold of a used pair, there are a few used pairs of Mad Dogs for around $225 here on Head Fi, I've heard previous M50 owners who where very happy with the Mad Dogs, and they are warm headphones!
