Alternative to astro mixamp for fps console gaming.

I am interested in using a dolby headphone capable amp for my AT cans, my friend has the a40 mixamp/headphones which i've tried, i like the amp but was a little disappointed in the cans, my at's sounded better than the a40 set. I was wondering if there was a comparable product to this mix amp, if there is a dolby headphone device at a lower price tag. also i'm currenty using an e5 amp on the xbox with the rca red and white going to the e5 amp, would it be of any advantage at all to run the aduio from the xbox's optical output to the amp with an optical to 3.5mm cable? Bottom line is i would like to use something like dolby headphone or similar to play my games, i see the astro amp for ike 135 but i was serching for something similar or comparable.

I use a Turtle Beach Ear Force DSS (amp) with a Steelseries Audio mixer (allows any pc headset to be used with Xbox 360).
