It will, you should also consider the Soundmagic HP-150

For the $200 range, I would also be looking at going with the Soundmagic HP150.

your one of the experienced person i found on headfi.
i also own jvc s500. what do you think would be an upgrade to it. the jvc s500 has been kinda boring now. i want some change.

I liked the JVC HA-S500 when I first bought it, they were my first decent portable headphones (and only $50), but I think even my Gemini HSR-1000 (Takstars Pro 80) offer better (at least preferred) sound.
Guess the SRH840 would have less bass, compared to the HSR-1000.
I've heard adding the SRH940 ear pads to the SRH840, improves the SRH840.

Still think the Soundmagic HP150 is going to be the better choice, offering more bass/treble, but still with good mids.

actually im more into forward mids sound sig like fuller sound sig. jvc s500 is verygood at what it does but mids are sort of scooped.
what do say about beyer DT 770 or 880 above jvc s500 and as an upgrade to takstar pro80.
i was in guitar center 2 days back tried some dt770 through my ipod rockbox 5.5 gen. i felt like it needed some portable amp. is an amp must for dt770 or it will run same as jvc s500 or as takstar pro80 with an ipod?

+1 on the SoundMAGIC HP150.

As far as the DT770 goes, there is a new version called the DT770i that is available only at Guitar Center. Unsure if that is the one you tried. It is a 16 ohm 770 and so should work just fine straight out of a phone or DAP. Point being that if you want a DT770, you shouldn't necessarily require an amp ( esp if you get the 16 ohm version).

DT770/DT880/DT990 (any impedance, except the 16-Ohm DT770i) really need need to be used with a dedicated headphone amplifier, to sound their best.

That why I push the 32-Ohm Soundmagic HP150 or HP200.
