I know you can't compare desktop amps and portable amps, but judging from the huge difference in price you'd think that the Continental, even though it's just a portable amp, can easily beat the Xonar's built-in amp.
Is this the correct assumption?
I'm thinking about adding the Continental to my audio chains, so my setup will look like this:
Home: Foobar->WASAPI->Xonar Essence STX as DAC->The Continental->HD600
Portable: iPod Classic->ALO Bling Bling Dock to Mini->The Continental[changed from ALO RX]->UM3X [I can't afford the CLAS so I don't know if I'm going to cripple my Continental with this setup.]
Will there be any appreciable gain, or should I just stick with the Xonar?
These are the reasons why it HAS to be the Continental:
1. I like the ALO house sound(Spaciousness, and that 3D feeling)
2. It can be used as both desktop and portable amp due to its size and power.
3. It's rechargable.
4. I don't have the budget to buy two separate amps for both setups.
Is this going to be an improvement over my old setups? Am I just wasting my money?
Any opinion would be highly appreciated as this is the first time I'm buying an amp that's worth about 500$ and I want to make sure that it's the money well spent.
