Is the a205A MkII a good option for driving the K1000? Since the Almarro has switchable 8 and 16 Ohm outs, can I connect the 120 Ohm K1000 directly to the speaker binding posts or do I need parallel resistors or even external transformers to match the impedance ?

Brospin,

I've heard that this is a really nice combo. Give a ring to member Jon_L, whom I believe has these two.

Cheers,
Garry

In my system, the only headphones I could use with Almarro was DT880-600ohm (very high impedance), and result was excellent! (with mini to 1/4" adaptor). Even my HD650 which is 300 ohm impedance (ie considered high) resulted in low level hum. I tried various cables and setups to eliminate the hum, but eventually gave up, so Almarro serves duty as speaker amp only.

It seems that the A250A is not a good headphone amp and in my case I would in the end use it for the K1000 only. And for that use I also have other contenders, mainly the Sig 30.2. It's not easy to fins a versatile amp that is capable of driving both the K1000 and "regular" phones. The RKVII and the Prehead are the only ones that come to my mind right now.

someone correct me if I'm wrong, but resistors to match loads aren't necessary for an amplifier without an ouptut filter. I thought that resistors in parallel business was reserved for switching amplifiers

I have no idea about the use of resistor in series to match impedances, but someone told me about the need to use external resistors if the headphone out of the A250A is used for driving low impedance phones.
Resistors in parallel are often used when power amps are used to drive the K1000. I do so with the TA-10 for the K1000, although I really doubt if this is necessary. Vinnie Rossie told me that no external resistors are needed for driving the K1000 with the Signature 30 (a class D integrated amp).
