I'm about to purchase a Compass from Audio-GD and I'm wondering about the sound quality coming from the ALC850's (onboard soundcard for asus a8n-sli deluxe) optical/coaxial out port.

Would it be OK to stick with that or should I invest in a decent sound card as well? Would it make a difference?

Keep in mind I'm only using this for the optical/coaxial out, I could care less about SQ to speakers (at least for now

).

if you are using only optical then there should be no problems its pure digital ..

optical is as pure as it gets its very hard to mess with light..
