As we're winding down to the end of 2012, what are your picks for the Album of 2012?

My person favorite of 2012 is O' Be Joyful by Shovels and Rope.

My runner up would have to be the Lumineers.  They make nearly flawless pop music.

I'll be making a slightly different thread of my own when we actually wrap up (still waiting on a few releases next month) but my albums in the running are as follows.

Lorn - Ask the Dust
Swans - The Seer
BT - Morceau Subrosa
BT - If the Start are Eternal So are You and I...
Flying Lotus - Until the Quiet Comes
Truth - Love's Shadow
Two Fingers - Stunt Rhythms

No particular order but when I think about it even a little bit it's between Morceau Subrosa and Ask the Dust, but honestly...Morceau Subrosa is a masterpiece.

Om - Advaitic Songs

...cool to see one of these threads pop up here.

As blogs are transitioning from 2012 releases to 2013, I've begun the early stages of compiling a year-end list.  However, as I don't simply "abandon" music from years past but instead continue to appreciate it, my time is becoming ever more partitioned.  I've decided to scale my annual top 100 back to a rigidly-ranked top 50 (eh... that seems to be the sweet spot for critics anyway) and will be vetting my back catalog during the first quarter of the new year.

I'll report back with my selections. (spoiler: I've already seen one of my favorites mentioned... and also what was probably my biggest disappointment)

EDIT:

Oh, and I love these kinds of threads because it helps me "find" some of what had slipped past me or give a second chance to something that I had previously passed up for whatever reason.  In my defense, it's impossible to listen to every album that's released within a given timeframe and quality review sites are a dying breed. Gotta check my list of things I kept first...

Aesop Rock - Skelethon
Ben Folds Five - The Sound Of The Life Of The Mind
Cursive - I Am Gemini
Dave Matthews Band - Away From The World
Dead Can Dance - Anastasis
Deftones - Koi No Yokan
Grizzly Bear - Shields
Jack White - Blunderbuss
Mars Volta - Nocturniquet
Menomena - Moms
Meshuggah - Koloss
Milo Greene - Milo Greene
Mumford & Sons - Babel
Muse - 2nd Law
Neil Young and Crazy Horse - Psychedelic Pill
Ramona Falls - Prophet
Smashing Pumpkins - Oceania
The Sword - Apocryphon

Got a few more from 2012, but I'm going with Menomena's Moms

But DMB is right in there.  Great albums.

So far, Grizzly Bear's The Shields has risen to the top of the albums I've listened. I like the clean sound a lot, and I feel there is no particular weak point. Other contenders that rank high up there:

The Swans - The Seer
Flying Lotus - Until the Quiet Comes
Bat for Lashes - Haunted man

I'm probably going to be settling on Frank Ocean's Channel Orange for my pick. (Even if it is nominated for a Best Album Grammy x.x.) I am a sucker for quality R&B, of which there is so very little these days. Channel Orange scratches every R&B itch I've got. Runner-up for me would probably be Kendrick Lamar's Good Kid, Mad City. Though I've been switching these two albums' positions ever since Good Kid dropped, so who knows? Other close contenders for me are Swans: The Seer, Fiona Apple: The Idler Wheel..., and Burial: Kindred.

Edit: Om had a new album out this year?!?!? Crap! I need to go listen to that right now.

Don't count Burial out yet. New EP in a little under 2 weeks.
