... and considering what they are worth, it wouldn't really matter if you could fully enjoy them

We all know that's an endless ladder to nowhere.

"Keep trying till you find one you like." is like telling a cow to keep eating grass all day long.

The HD 414 was seen on lot on TV years ago (and still is sometimes today) while the AKG 240 / Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro are are often visible in recording studios, so I guess all of the 3 have their purposes.

Plenty of people find them irritating on enough songs to call them unworthy of ownership. Then there's those who simply prefer electrostats for high end listening. And if you want them so much, then why are you ordering HD650s instead?

See my sig.

Currently the 600s are the king of my hill.

I've had the Senn 600/Cardas for a couple of years now and chose the AKG K701 over them by a very slight margin which may bump my Senns out of my system all together. The 650s were a step backwards in some respects for me.

The K1000s are king. I heard them last night to make sure since I haven't listened to them in awhile and I am confident that nothing comes close within my budget anyway. If they sound bad - chances are your system is lacking. They simply expose way more than other phones - flaws and all - the K701s gloss over bad sounds, so to my ears belong in the Senn 600/650 range. (flame suit time)

AKG has pushed me away from Senn (well maybe - don't know if I can ever part with the 600s - we'll see). Blame them not me.

If you really need help deciding which one is better, buy every model that each company makes, do a pros and cons chart, then proceed to divide the difference by pi and spin around until your silly.

I perfer the HD650 to the K701. I have heard both, and I actually had the option to get the K701 cheaper than the HD650. BTW, sennheiser does own all, with the HE90!

You got a point there. I haven't heard them (HE90), but considering the consensus they seem to clearly be the best phone around. Too bad it's a moot point to me since I'll never own one.

i love my 600/blue dragon combo -- for me, it works for its tonal accuracy, soundstage, etc.

i've heard the 701s and they are "exciting" -- they're more in your face. it would be interesting to compare them over an extended period of time.

it's really all about the music -- give them both a listen and choose the ones that give you goose bumps.
