Hey everyone,

I am a reference headphone virgin and am looking for my first set of cans. I saw that AKG is coming out with the K812 as their new flagship, and I'm really interested. What is everyone's opinion on these headphones? Is there a targeted MSRP out yet?

Furthermore, I'll also be using these for gaming on my PC. I recently bought a Xonar Essence STX to compliment my new headphones so I don't think I'll have a problem with amplification or need a new DAC to really bring out the sound in any set of headphones I get.

Very few have tried them so no consensus on their sound yet.  There should be more impressions once they're officially available and people have tried them.
 
MSRP is £1000 or $1500  or €1200.
 
There are some "pre-release" threads on them already.

Might I ask why? I saw a review of the HD 800s as both a reference headphone but also a gaming headset. I am hoping the K812 will be that for me.

well if you have the money to pour into an hd800 then do it! for a decent price the k702 annies have a large soundstage and great clarity. ive really enjoyed using them for bf3 and now bf4 (when its not crashing). i originally paired it with the asus essence stx and the positioning was great. i believe mad lust envy has a write up on them somewhere on the forums.

I was originally going to get the K702 annies but then heard about the K812 and was wowed. I will probably get the 702 Annies for now and when the price of the 812 come down in the next year or so I'll grab those! Thanks for the input!
