I want purchase either the AKG K702, or Beyerdynamic DT880 (250 Ohm). My uses for the new headphones will be for watching blu-ray movies, listening to acoustic music, and playing Xbox 360 games. Also I will be connecting one of them to my Yamaha RX-V1800's headphone jack. Out of the two headphones which one is the best and why?

I would honestly go with the DT880/600. DO NOT BUY THE 250 ohm! You will be sorry (I'm speaking from personal experience). It has a very "U" shaped presentation with poorly recessed mids and metallic treble. The 600ohm versions offer a far better neutral presentation with deep and taught bass (with good impact) and the mids are quite a bit more forward. The treble is much better too (without sounding fake).

I found that the 250 ohm and 600 ohm beyers were not too different to drive properly. beyerdynamic's 600 ohm drivers are very light and efficient and it's pretty amazing just how easy they can be to drive (especially through a tube amp; which you can always pick up down the road

I would definitely get the AKG K70x over the DT880/250s

I would actually have to disagree. I think the 250 ohm have a pretty neutral presentation. I have owned the 600 ohm version as well and I actually prefer the 250, although I might be alone in this. I thought the 600 ohm sounded kind of dark like the HD650 but I did have leather pads on them and that might have contributed to it. If you had an OTL tube amp to power them I would probably recommend the 600 ohm but with the receiver I would go DT880 250 ohm. They are about $80 cheaper than the 600 too.

With a powerful amp with lots of current the K702's sound awesome. If you power them from a receiver even a really nice one you only get about half of what they are capable of, I tried it (out of a higher end Yamaha). I hope you enjoy the 880's they are really nice cans.

I received the DT880 250 Ohm version today and they sound excellent, much better than my speakers. I have them connected to the headphone jack on my Yamaha RX-V1800 receiver and I'm surprised that my receiver has a good headphone section. I might end up selling my speakers, because the sound on the DT880 is exceeds my speakers. For fun, I tried the DT880 with my Sansa Clip + and it had enough juice to power them, but I had to turn up the volume near maximum to get decent loudness, anyway my Denon AH-C710 earphones are more suited for my Sansa Clip +.
