AKG K612 Pro vs HD600 comparison

Huh? I posted on the first page as an owner of both.

You were the only one yes. Then it went off topic haha. I will see what i find, i don't expect them to be better obviously, but seems like a similar sound signature at a better price.

The K612 are a bit warmer sounding, in terms of tonal balance, and lack the HD600's transparency. The HD600 also scale on a different order of magnitude; the better the equipment and the source material, the better they will sound. I don't think I've reached their limit and I have pretty good gear. OTOH, the K612 is more forgiving, sounds very good with poor recordings, and lacks any sense of listening fatigue. The K612 is also more difficult to drive; I hope you have a good amplifier. Good luck.

That's odd because I find the HD 600 warmer and slightly more forgiving than the K612. The HD 600 is more transparent and does scale better though. Listening to both right now. True, the K612 is a pain to drive, hardest headphone I've owned to drive outside the Sextett, though I find it scales very well.

I do have plenty of amplification. My DT 770 Pro 250Ohm isn't even pushing me past 12 o'clock yet. I can't imagine the K612 would need too much more. We will see. Thanks for the insight, I will be posting a full review of it after I get my hands on it. I will try to remember to post it in this thread when I get to it.

The TEAC UD-H01 is rated 45mw per channel into 32 ohms. The K612 Pros are some of the more difficult to drive AKG open headphones. My guess is that your Teac will have trouble driving them beyond moderate listening volumes.

And my TEAC HA-P50 ratings are below, yet my UD-H01 is at least 25% more powerful. Honestly I think TEAC did not bother to actually benchmark the amp on the UD-H01, so they just published blah. It's actually quite commonplace for manufacturers to do this these days. So many gems out there nobody knows about :).

Effective maximum output
160mW+160mW(32Ω, 1KHz, 10%, JEITA)
65mW+65mW(300Ω, 1KHz, 10%, JEITA)
35mW+35mW(600Ω, 1KHz, 10%, JEITA)

The UD-H01 may be an RMS rating, whereas the TEAC HA-P50 would appear to be a max power rating (since it's at 10% THD).

I have the Fiio E12 which is rated 880 mW (32 Ω/THD<1%), and it will power the K612s decently to moderately loud volumes.

Just got the K612 today. It's a bit early to give my final thoughts but I can give my first impressions after a few hours. Power wise my TEAC UD-H01 can drive them from moderate to ear bleeding levels from 11 to 12 o'clock on the volume dial. I would say they are definitely not easy to drive by any means, about 10% more power than my DT 770 Pro 250 Ohm. I have not done an A/B comparison with my HD 600 yet. So far I am liking the sound signature very much, mids are present and warm, great details are revealed in the upper end without being harsh. Great soundstage and imaging too. The only negative sound wise for me is the bass response, it's tight and accurate, just lacking a great deal in quantity and overall impact. I will be burning them in the next few days to see if things change. So far I am very happy though.

It's good to read your positive thoughts about the K612. Your first impressions make me think they'll meet my expectations. I hope I receive mine by the end of the month, so I can bring them to the meet up in Calgary.

How do the k612 stack up to the q701? Is the q701 worth the extra 30 euros? I'll be using them for trance production, mastering monitoring tracking mixing playing games and general music listening
