AKG K601 v. AD700

AFAIK, no one here has owned both simultaneously. Some folks have owned the AD900 and K601 simultaneously, and others have owned the AD700 and K701 simultaneously.

I have the K601 and A700 but its an unfair comparison because its an open headphone vs. the closed version of another.

I think he meant it would be unfair for him to compare his phones because he has the K601 and the closed version of the 700s.

I owned the AD700's for 3 weeks before I returned them. I couldn't get the proper fit with them. I recently got the K601's and love them. The comfort on them is perfect. I found the AD700's too lose and the pads above your ear sat further away then they did below. I also didn't like the 3d wing design. (Yes, I tried the rubber band) The K601's just fit exactly how you want them to and don't move. I feel that the K601's have better mids and more detail then the AD700's. The K601's have a nice tight bass where the AD700's were pretty lean. The K601's are warmer then the AD700's in a very pleasing way. The soundstage is big on both of them. The Ad700's may be slightly bigger but its hard to tell without A/B'ing them. Anyways, hope that helps.

A700 is not closed closed version of AD700, it's completely different headphone.

The mids of the K501 is very comparable to the mids of the W5000 at 1/4th of the price.
