I'm looking for a closed headphone that if i needed could be portable mainly no sound leakage.  I have a pair of Grado sr 80i for home use that i love, and I am wondering if either the k550 or m100 have a similar sound for classic rock?  My budget is about 300 dollars and i don't have an amp so a headphone that's easy to drive would be preferred.

I'd recommend the kef m500. Very flat and natural response.

Anyway, the k550 sounds very bright and sterile IMO. M100 should sound like the complete opposite of the SR80i.

I have the AKG K550s. I am a big Grado fan, and I shopped around a lot for a closed headphone that would have a good soundstage and good mids and highs like my Grado SR225i. Obviously they don't sound the same, but the K550 sort of have a similar appeal to me. Plus, they have much better bass extension than the SR80i or SR225i.

They are also $240 on Amazon right now. Well within your budget.

Yeah i think i'm gonna end up gettting the K550s. They are cheaper so maybe i can do something with the other $60 like get some wood cups for my sr80i or a small amp.

Theyre brand new. If you don't feel comfortable buying them, then don't, k550 should suit your tastes. Just saying, the m500 may be on ear but its definitely the most comfortable on ear can I've worn.

I think i'll just end up getting the k550s but if you have anymore recommendations that i can find reviews on they would be greatly appreciated!

Or get some L-Cush pads. Have you tried them with your SR80i yet?

If you look at the Grado website, the described differences between the two are the pads, the different cable, and then better matched drivers. My son has the SR80i. When I put the comfies from them on the 225s, the 225s sound a lot like the 80s, and vice versa when I use the L-cush.

Now the wooden cups will change the sound, too. That's why the SR325is sound different from the SR225i--plastic to metal cups changes the signature.

Yeah i hear the wood changes the sound depending on what type of wood it is.  I will probably go for a mahogany based on it being a tone wood and it's also pretty dense like metal so maybe it'll sound some what like the sr325i.
