Hello forum!

Both these models come in at a price bracket suitable for myself at present.

I'm looking to use them with a Sony MP3 player whilst out the house, my PC, TV & Amp.

Can anyone provide their opinion as to which I might be better to choose? Or suggestions of alternative models in the £30-40GBP price bracket.

I can pick up the AKG's for £35 delivered.

I can pick up the Shure's for £40.98 delivered.

Thanks, Gavin.

Haven't heard the Shure to compare, but a warning straight off that the K518 has a ridiculous quantity of mid bass. Once that's tamed they're not actually too bad for the price, even if they're darker than the usual AKG house sound, and they isolate fairly well for portable use. For long term use in a hi-fi set up I wouldn't recommend them; you're likely to find comfort issues which will make you want to take them off for five minutes every 30-60 minutes. You may need to decide which use is more important to you; portable or hi-fi.
