Well, most of what I would say has already been said.
It is true that there are at least two versions of the K340. The two that I have had were rather similar, though my new set has a bit more bass than the old pair [perhaps due to the BlackGold cabling]. There seems to be a version that has less refinement, but with a warmer sound and more bass... aerius has this version. After mods both headphones are closer to eachother but the differences are still there.
The HF-1 is a great headphone, but very different from the K340. As was already mentioned, they do some rock [particularity male vocals and acoustic guitar] much better than the K340. With pretty much anything else I prefer the AKG's though as they just have more refinement, soundstage, detail, and instrument separation/imaging.
That said, the two headphones compliment eachother very well. If I am not in the mood for critical listening, I will sometimes throw on the HF-1's to get a bit more PRAT and just tap my feet to the music.
