Hello,
I recently acquired a used AKG K340 and love the sound, can't believe it sounds so good for 40yrs old headphone!
Ordered a Velour pad and can't wait to try it on, the headphone itself is old and worn, the elastic is loose and the 6.35mm jack has spots and sometimes needs some twisting, so want to upgrade it by re-wiring, and all other mods. Cant imagine how it will sound in balanced!

I know there is re-wire service in america, but looking more for UK/EU based audiophile/specialist, also happy to pay if anyone here experienced is happy to help.

Thanks,
Lucas

Congrats on your K340 purchase. It's my favorite HP. Mine are stock and with a little EQ adjustment they crush anything I've listened to as far as detail and imaging are concerned. Welcome to the Forum. I can't help you with your rewire but thought I'd mention how good they really are.

Thank you! Its been more than a year now and now I had owned much more expensive headphones like Utopia and HD800, but AKG K340 is still there, its very special indeed!

What EQ profile had you applied to yours?

Custom. I'll take a snap shot. If you can give it a try that would be awesome. Mine are the bass light drivers but it's the best quality bass I've heard. The K340 have a spike around 2.5 Khz that need tamed. Also I find between 400 and 800 hz cause fatigue. Pro tip: Your ears should touch the back of the pads. That's where the magic is.

Thank you very much @Davidzak64 for sharing the EQ, I will try it when I am back home!
I had swapped my pad to velour as the original pad had dried and is now much more comfortable!

I got some replacement pads off eBay, leather with memory foam in them. Bit thicker than the somewhat deflated stock pads, but it helps by moving the drivers a little further from ones ears, which seems to open up the sound a little. Replacement of the tensioners helped add back a little clamping force also.
Oh and I converted mine to balanced too, which helped push a little more power to them, which they benefit from greatly.

They're like liquid gold when properly amped.

I agree. I've yet come across a better sounding HP. Tip: Touch your ears to the rear of the inside pads and the bass will come alive. Enjoy
