Ok Time to take the plunge for a full set of cans. I want the closest sound to my ue-11 within a starting budget. Only open phones I have tried were the hd555 and I felt they sounded thin and at times the highs sounded shrill out of my pico. In my opinion to get decent bass I had to cover he grills to seal them off a bit. Was looking at the k701/702 and 602 and was told they would sound quite thin. I love how the akg's look but want sound as close to my customs. I want to hear great details in the highs but have a good detailed bass present. Give me your opinions on what should be bought. Listen to most types of music but country. If I decide full cans are not for me they will be sold to roommate who likes classic rock.

Budget for first cans are probably 300 or less as not sure if I will like dull cans. K272 are under 200 on amazon.com

From what you've stated and regarding your budget and amps, IMO the Beyer DT 150. Non stridant highs, spot on mids, incredible bass extension and quality. HUGE soundtage. Comfortable.

I'm gonna jump in too, cause I'm about to take a similar plunge.

I've already got some akg 601s, but want a closed, or semi closed pair for work. I've already got an amp (work will be one of those awesome little MiniMAX's !), so am wondering how the akg272 or 242's might sound amped ?

There is surprisingly little info on those cans !

AKG K 272 will benefit from an amp but also are quite sensitive so it may not be a must have like other cans.

I find mine much better than 99% of the messages I read here saying they are lifeless and bassless.

I used them with an Ibasso D2 boa and so far so good.

Disclaimer: I'm a newbie
