i know akg used to sell a selector box that would allow one to easily switch between speakers and the k1000. i also know they're pretty hard to find.

so my question is, what is the best way to accomplish this seemingly easy task? is a selector box easy to build? anyone have a schematic for it? any suggestions?

A simple AB speaker tester would work, one designed for auditioning speakers. You could buy one of those from anywhere. Or, just build one, very easy, all you need is a switch, some wire, some binding posts and a case. And if you wanted, it would be a very simple matter of panel-mounting an XLR socket on the case, and terminating there rather than binding posts.
