Denon AH-D5000. I'd go with Denon's any day over most of the AKG's I've tried so far.

The openness of the akg's are tempting. You'd really say the denons match it's soundstage?

Denon's are closed but not sealed. For movies, I picked my D2000 over LCD-2, LCD-3 and HE-500 because of the subwoofer type rumble that neither of them could produce. At the same time, the Denon's are quite open sounding and as you might notice, they leak a lot.

I have owned the denon d2000, and I would choose the akg any day of the week for any purpose over the "rumbling" denons.

As always its a matter of taste. Found my K701 somewhat "odd" sounding for my ears. Yes, not the k712:s but i assume the signature is very similar. As for the D2000 i have now i would take them over akg without hesitation and that includes if i was to get my hands on a pair of D5000.
 
Also, mind that the Denons might have a slight different sound depending on year of release. Measurements can be seen on Innerfidelity.
