can i run an akg 701 off a HeadRoom Total BitHead with good results or is it too weak to drive these cans?

i have already got the bithead and have been using it for 2 years with a sony mdr-7506, which isn't a bad combo imho

I do and it sounds fine. Enough juice for these demanding cans, the 2006 latest version that is

The Bithead has surprising juice, but I'd think an amp upgrade will carry a lot of weight.

They will work of a bithead, But they deserve a full sized amp to get the best results.

I am sure you will think they sound good out of a portable, but when you try them in a full sized amp ( preferably with tubes) you will be amazed.

It works quite well off my Total Bithead....it's not going to show off the best from the K701 but when I last tried it, it surprised me how good it sounded.

Just because it's inexpensive doesn't mean it doesn't sound good.

If you compare to other portable amps, I think the pico and latest total bithead/airhead really hold their own in terms of actual output power.

I would agree wholeheartedly.

I suggest and M^3 or some other mosfet output amp. Transparency with a touch of warmth is what they need. The beta22 fits the bill
