Hi

Could some listeners who have compared them please post some info on the soundstage of the 701s compared to:

Senn 600 and 650
AKG 501
Beyer 880

Where does the 701 stand in terms of midrange "closeness" compared to the other phones?

I think the 501 has a somewhat close perspective, the 600 a bit distant, the 650 is more intimate, etc...

I'm mostly interested in where the 701 portrays lead vocalists.

Thanks!

Can't say first hand, but this is a topic near and dear to me at the moment, so all I can do is summarize the research I've done here:

I'd like this question more definitively answered too.

To my ears, the 701K midrange is the most up-front of the 3. With 80 hours of use, midrange is more sharply defined, more cool in balance, and larger in image than HD650.

I have the K701 and the HD600. I find the K701 more detailed, open, and easier to pick up the instruments. Overall I prefer the K701 to the HD600. Bear in mind that K701 is 50% more money.

agreed
the sound floats around me, not inside me, not too far out.
