I'm looking to venture into the headphi, I have already started into home audiophile realm (B&W speakers). I was wondering if the AKG 240S's would be a nice set. I plan on using with my laptop/creative 24bit usb sound blaster. I also plan on buying an iPod Nano or iPod g4 30GB.

It sure is, but it's definitely not for everybody. Especially, it might not be so ideal for both of your applications. I'd rather recommend something more efficient and less current hungry, like a Sennheiser HD 595 or a Beyerdynamic DT440 - or you could try the Creative HQ-1300, if you want a priceworthy recommendation from my side...

I totally forgot about the power issue. I will look at the others you mentioned. As for price I'm looking to spend around $150.

Um...isn't the Senn 555's 50ohm rating basically the same as the AKG 240s's 55ohm rating?

That is true, I will be using a headphone amp so it really doesn't matter to much. Reason I like the 240S is i can make my own cables depnding on my source. Another VERY important question, how comfortable are these. I had surgery awhile back and I need something comfortable to wear. Also I like to start a different thread so no more response, so I don't accused of spaming.

I'm suprised to hear that as I can't say I've ever heard anyone say that before. Are you sure you're thinking of the 240s? I know the 240m and 271s both have a reputation as really needing an amp...

Yes, I just bought them and returned them right away.... K240s. Too power hungry even though the M was supposed to be even more power hungry. I think the sensitivity of the k240s is around 90db which makes it about half the volume of a grado at the same level

I've tried them out several times, and have had no problem with the volume level coming straight out of my iPod...hmm. Hmm.
