Could somebody help me out?
 
I love the sound of my AK100, drop dead gorgeous......BUT.....i prefer a more shuffle working device.
 
 
Thinking of trading it for the RWA Imod where i can install Rockbox...but not sure if the wolfson chip has the same quality?

I own both and also prefer the sound quality of the AK100 over the iMod. That doesn't mean that the iMod doesn't sound good though...

Totally agree with that. As for other players I have the colorfly c4 and the dx100 but neither are quite as user friendly as the AK100

Ok, thats what i expected. ...maybe i should save my money for a better amp.....thinking about the headstage arrow.

I took the ak100 out without my usual amp, fiio e11, and sound is so much cleaner, nothing interfering.

The AK100 doesn't need amping if you have the right iems or phones. Try the klipsch x10i or the sennheiser hd800 or ie800. The best upgrade for you in my opinion. The klipsch costs very little too

I would have to doubt that the ak 100 can drive the hd800 properly , however I would agree that it pairs rather nicely with the ie800

my doubt is exemplified, I tried my friends hd 800, and imo it would need an amp instead of direct to actually sound good with the hd800
 
the ak100 simply doesn't have enough power to properly drive the hd800

This is beginning to go off topic. My ears and 50+ hours of listening says the HD800 soinds good with the AK100. Orher opinions including retrias are just as valid as mine and just as useful.
I use all phones through my DX100 on low gain whereas probably others boost the gain. It is more than loud enough for me.
I also listen in a quiet environment which makes a huge difference. I also love the HD800's with a passion.
All these things have effected my judgement whether I like it or not.
I just pinch myself and think how lucky I am to have it all, the c4 dx100 and ak100
