My Senn HD555s...yuck. I hate their sound. Virtually no upper treble, so image separation stinks. Worse yet, they have no lower bass (20-50 Khz).

So.. I want some AH-D2000s. I hear they run good unamped. Is there A LOT MORE upper treble than my Senns? More lower bass? Should I get 'em?

Will the AH-D2000 have A LOT more upper treble (not the harsh low- & mid-treble of Grados) than a HD555?

I owned the HD555 and I know what you mean. And FWIR, the D2000 is what you are looking for, better though if amped.

Edit:
A recabled and amped D1001 would probably do it for you too, maybe better than an unamped D2000.

I thought my Senn 555 sounded great until i decided to buy a pair of Denon 1001's and it is a big improvement over the 555's. The bass is back and the sound is not too "bright". I would have prefered to upgrade to the 2000 model but money was tight at the time. If the 2000's sound as good as the 1001 which I am sure they do, you will really enjoy the sound.

I really cant understand why D1001 have such a bad cable. do you really have to change it to sound good or does it fall off? I thought the changes was minimal, and isnt that very $$$$? then i would go with the d2000 instead. Im shure the cable should be your last update if you ever need one

If money is an issue between d1001 and d2000, get a used d2000

I've not heard either, but from what I've read the d2000 is great, and its what you seem to want.

I don't believe recabling much of a difference. It hasn't in my experience. It's mostly source quality, amplification, and the headphones that make the difference to my ears.
Anyway, I think I might wait and get the AH-D5000. I really want a good 'phone. I hear the upper mids/lower treble lacks a bit in the 2000s, that is why I might get 5000s instead (price isn't an issue).

For what it's worth, I sold my HD600s (which I absolutely loved) after picking up my D2000s. Of course I got my D2000s already recabled with the Apuresound V2, which I do believe makes quite a difference.

Click on the link in my sig to see my most recent upgrade to my D2000s, the cocobolo cups! Extremely happy with these would be an understatement.

Okay... AH-D2000s I now know to be the best choice over Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic, etc.

What about a AH-D2000 versus the AH-D5000? Which has more and better upper-treble? I want quality, not quantity (Grado, cough). I can really tell treble defiencies for some odd reason (maybe me being a teenager has something to do with this). I also love deep bass. Bass does not annoy me, unless it is a wooly, 10+ dB mid-bass boost (again, like the Grado GS1000).
