I recently bought the Drop Aeon X Closed. I had to try them as I’ve always seen their unique shape on Drop but had no idea about them. So after a few years and getting my first planar set (4XX) this summer I wanted a closed pair of planar and Dan Clark Audio kept coming up.
So they’re my current favorite and now am thinking of an open pair of Aeons. I’ve looked at some graphs and you can notice that DCA phones definitely belong to the same genetic family.
So I’d like your input on the A2O v X or RT. Prices get interesting when also comparing used cost.
I like the Aeon X closed for:
-sound - everything is very clear (although I do like my 6XX for most classical)…. A bit too much treble for me but the filters work fine.
-bass is fine. Could be more but either way.
-same with mids.. maybe a little more
These will used for gaming, tv (clarity is more important than earthquake theater sound)
-a lot of classical but also just general listening
