Hi,

I need to buy a player and got confused.

To begin with, I need a player only for audio. Video is not concerned.

I know that almost all the DVD players have the advance DAC, but this is not the case for the CD players. Some of the CD players (especially OLD models) use 18, 20, or 24 bit DAC.

Does the advance DAC in a DVD player produce better sound than a CD player in general?

In particular, please help me to make a decision between a Pioneer DV-563AS DVD player or similar and a NAD 541i CD player or similar.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

I think if you don't need the features of a DVD player your best bet would be to go with a CD player, generally you'll get more quality for your money with a CD player.

There was a discussion of the merits of a dedicated CD player as opposed to an all-in-one DVD player on another forum a while back. You might especially want to read the comments of John Dawson of Arcam. Hope this helps.
