Ok, so I'm planning to build a new system come tax time this year... I've basically got a blank check between a $5000 return and some savings.  So, I'm planning to  spend about $3,000 on a new machine.

The MOST important thing to me is directional precision, and being able to locate targets via sound, with actual sound performance being a close second.  Can anyone recommend a floor to ceiling sound setup?

Ok, so for starters, I've been eyeing the following soundcard:

Please, let me know if that's as great of a card as it seems.  I'm kind of a newbie to audiophiledom.

Wait, I mistakenly put this here.  I thought this was gaming in-general, and not games specifically.

Sorry, moderator can you please lock?  I think I found the right forum to post this.

Get the Titanium HD ($109) sound card, with an add-on external headphone amplifier, like the O2 (Objective 2) headphone amplifier ($155).

The one thing I am really confused about is why a set like the AD700's would have better directional audio than something with dedicated connectors to 3 audio channels (front, rear, sides).  I really want to get my sound 100% correct this time around.
example:

Or, even better:

(a set that includes an amp)

Thats because you only have two ears. You do not need more than two drivers, emulating how sounds would be like if they were placed around you. By comparison, those with multiple drivers just sound like cheap drivers placed next to your ears in different positions. The two drivers will be very convincing with something like Dolby Headphone, and the right games to demo.
