I'm trying to round out my music library, and the largest hole is metal. I don't really want "beginner" albums, mainstream stuff, or completely obscure recordings.

I'm looking for some variety: old school, new school, american, international, underground, some-what popular, etc.

If you metal-junkies could list a few albums (not 20+ unless you are bored) that would be very helpful.

Thanks,

Wyatt

Meshuggah - Nothing
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Iron Maiden - Live After Death
Judas Priest - Painkiller
Sleep - Holy Mountain
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality

Guess I got to this thread a little late. Here's a few more that weren't mentioned (I think...

).

Kamelot - Karma - Power
Nightwish - Highest Hope - Symp/Goth
Royal Hunt - Paradox - Power/Prog
Seventh Wonder - Waiting in the Wings - Prog
Symphony X - Paradise Lost - Prog
Threshold - Dead Reckoning - Prog
Within Temptation - The Silent Force - Symp/Goth
Xystus - Receiving Tomorrow - Power

For me the most accessible sub-genre to get into was Power and Progressive. I'm still having trouble with some of the death vocals, maybe one day....

Amon Armarth With Oden by Our Side
I cant compete with the likes of asmox/dark angel/etc, but from the pool of this music I've heard, this is the absolute best. (regarding the really heavy deathmetal-ish stuff).
Aside from being great music, it sounds like it was recorded far better than about 99 percent of the current rock/metal music out there. It doesn't clipp as bad on my system as most rock at loud levels. It is far smoother, despite being aggressive rock. Sounds phenomenal to be honest.

edit* Also check out Wormed: Planisphaerium, but enter at your own risk.
