Hello all

I've had a pair of the excellent 580's for about 4 years now and they've served me faithfully. However, I now rarely have the time to actually sit down at home and listen to them with my CD player. Instead I now use my iPod 60GB 5G for 95% of my listening and it struggles to drive them.

I also have access to some HD201's, PX100's and Beyerdynamic DT231's, but am considering selling the 580's to make way for something like the 50 ohm HD595's. I'm willing to spend up to £100 (and can get the 595's for £80).

So - thoughts, comments, suggestions? I listen to everything from Radiohead to Aesop Rock, from Explosions in the Sky to Smog......

I wouldn't consider the 595s particularly portable. I transport mine to work and back in one of Headroom's bags but for true portable usage my UM1s or K26Ps get all the use. The 595s are big and you have to worry about something bad happening to them or misplacing/forgetting them because you always have to set them down somewhere instead of just stuffing them into your pockets.

I guess a lot has to do with money. On one end you could get a Grado SR-60 ($70), SR-80 ($95) or SR-225 ($200). For a bit more "cojones" get the PAV2 ($60) a line out and mini to mini ($40 from various sellers here). If you like the HD580 go to Headphile and get his Senn V2 in Black Silver for about $100.

I would go with one of the two following options:

1) Grado SR-225 ($200) + PAV2 ($60) + line out ($40)= $300
2) Headphile Senn V2 cable in Black Silver ($100) + Dr. Xin's Supermini ($200) + lineout ($40)= $340

Good luck.
