Have you jiggled the headphone cord around a bit? Out of no were my headphones sounded really weak and distored, the volume was like one third of what it used to be, I thought I blew the headphones out but then played with the cord and found it to be the problem.

I ended up having JMT put together a good solid replacement cable for me. Worked out great in my situation. The cables were much better then the stock ones and so I got a major improvment in sound. I have the Sennheiser HD590 headphones.
