Hey. After a few years mostly using bluetooth (currently using xm5s) on mobile - it feels like time to finally bite the bullet and get custom IEMs for casual listening, dog walks - planes - dishes.

Anyone have any tips on the process? Previously I had custom earplugs made for automotive use and was extremely happy. Not sure how the audio space works getting IEMs shelled. Probably looking at jh-audio JH7 PRO Custom; but was thinking something cheaper could be better and the space feels flooded now.

Thanks!

More and more makers stop their custom IEM business and/or custom sleeve options because you can get something that is on par or even more comfortable with an universal IEM

Westone just stopped their custom IEM business this month referring to their MACH release. Shure provided custom sleeves in the past, but stopped that service. Afair Sennheiser did too.

The issue is, if you get something like the COMPLY P-Type https://www.complyfoam.com/products/professional-p-series you get the same level of isolation with an even higher level of comfort, without any air pressure issues at all and if the size/form of your ear canal slightly changes (which is does over the years), it doesn't matter.

So maybe rather get an semi custom or just average universal, most of them will give you the exact same or even better level of comfort without many of the downside.

Have you seen the thread at the top of the forum

https://www.head-fi.org/threads/thi...-iem-impressions-done-the-perfect-fit.578855/

If you have positive experience with custom earplugs that is helpful, they can be thought of as empty CIEM. I had custom earplugs made from the same impressions for CIEM. Suggest demoing IEM at a retailer, meet or CanJam show. Or failing which read online reviews based on 'the sound' you are looking for. Agree do not spend a lot if it is for dog walking or dishes (?)

if you have access to fitear ciem, they're the most comfortable to me. sony justear mh1r comes close as the 2nd best in terms of comfort.

other than that, i'd rated 64audio above others. i've also got aaw, empire ears, fir, acoustune, UE ciems too but they're not particularly comfortable to wear for long listening session.

good info; thanks. I do have a pair of Shure se215s with AZLA SednaEarfit MAX ASMR eartips on them that I enjoy. I <3 Comply, but they get uncomfortable over time for me. Now i'm looking at universals again o.0
