You can use a Magni with a computer or a smartphone. You'll need a 3.5mm to 2 x RCA cable.
You won't get the most out of it in terms of sound quality but it should be just fine anyway until you can get a dedicated DAC.

Sorry if this is a bit less of a smart question, but if I get a magni 3 for instance, do I need to get a DAC along with it straight away or can it wait?

I would be using my computer, so I guess I should be okay then. I got onboard sound and I also got a cheap soundcard laying around.
