Considering the cost of a CMOY amp, I don't think it would be a big problem to find out for yourself. The amp would be useful for any future endeavors so you won't be beating yourself up for spending the money. Give it a shot and let us know how you like it.
I use a CMOY with a cheap generic card and hear better bass and definition even in my speakers and is a nice way to have a headphone connection upfront too.
I added a SR-71 to my Indigo and didn't notice any improvement. If you want to step up, I recommend the Headroom Bithead. I had one for a month and it was a definitely better.
I'm sure the SR-71 is a better amp than the small amp squeezed into Echo. Since I didn't notice any improvement, it makes me think the source in the Echo was the limiting factor, and adding a higher-quality amp wouldn't improve things.
