Hi DIYers

I recently got a pair of Sennheiser HD 580s and did this mod to it: APureSound - Where The Music Is Always Pure

Thanks to APS they now sound way better more pronounced highs and a better midrange. [AK]Zip & APS you guys ROCK!

But in order to get them to sound their best you remove a foam pad in front of the driver inside the earcup. This allows for dust and other bad things to settle on the diaphragm which is now completely exposed. So I was thinking about making a small fabric insert like the stuff you see on AKG K 501/601/701. Just to keep things safe.

Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? What fabric to use? Where to get it?

It should be relatively easy to cut a big oval and glue it to the back of the earpads.

Thanks for reading!

Cheers,
Frederik

You can also find acoustically transparent cloth for use on speaker grilles. I don't know how well it would work for headphones, but you could buy enough to experiment with for just a little money.

Thanks for the answers. I will pickup some "speaker" type and a pair of women's stockings :P I wonder how the store clerks look at me when I ask them for a big pair of women's stockings. They will probably think I am going to rob a bank or something like that :P
