First, I still have the cd-25 as the buyer backed out. Secondly, you will be getting a PM about why your player may not sound optimal. Hi Earl,
I would also appreciate any tips you have for making the CD-25 sound less laid back. The "wired correctly" comment has me curious.




I have 2 units one is a RAM25 and the other was modded by RAM east.
Although they both sounds good, They both may be a little too laid back.

The wired correctly applies to the Sound Odyssey units. The cd-25's dac seems to be laid back period. Even at its best that dac just doesnt have the upfront, dynamic type of sound of the dac's used in my sacdmods 555es or in the philips 963sa.... and they have the identical output stage.

Is there any difference between the 1.3 and 1.2e units, I'm under the impression that the 1.2e was the version just before the 2.0?

1.2e was the last version before the 2.0. If you are referring back to Hirsch's post I think he was talking about a 1.2e.

I am bumping this for my final assessment. In short, I think the dack v2.0 is one of the better sources I have heard period. The dack has no edge or digititis and an inherent musicality that captivated me. The sound is different from my sacdmods 555es but certainly of equal quality.

I have an Eastsound E5 coming tomorrow and I hope the E5 measures up to the dack v2.0 and 555es. I had to return the dack and it shipped out Monday.... so unfortunately.... I cant do a direct comparison. I do have notes from one last long listening session that I can add to my other dack notes and my general impression of the dack. I also have my dack 1.2e... but I feel the v2.0 is definitely superior overall. So I should be able to give a good comparison between the 555es and the v2.0 and now the 555es and the E5. The winner between the dack v2.0 and the eastsound E5 finds a home.
