I have Pop Up Stopper pro, from panicware, and it works pretty decent for the price (free from Kazaa) but get the pro, you can customize a toolbar and attach it to the the explorer, other versions are bigger and do not has the toolbar option...

I use Mozilla 1.2. There's a built
in pop up killer. You can also prevent
code from resizing your window or
changing the status bar. Lots of nice
utils at http://mozdev.org/ also (such
as one that prevents banners from bieng displayed, and one that lets you
toggle anti pop up with a button).

Of course, you need to use Moz. as your browser...

I use the MyIE2 browser which uses the IE engine but basically makes it the browser that IE should be. It's a tabbed browser with a built in pop up stopper. There are a couple of different ways it can deal with popups. I personally use the option to block everything. The nice thing is I can turn it off on a per tab basis so for instance my Head-Fi tab (and any tabs opened from links) will allow popups. There is also a list type of blocker as well but I've never really used it so can't say how well it works. The thing I like about MyIE2 is it's all in one not a seperate program running, it's relatively easy on resources, at least in comparison to other tabbed browsers I've used and it has just about all the functionality one could want.

Mozilla! ( www.mozilla.org ) Built in pop up stopper AND the email client has a seriously good spam filter (though it does take a week or two to train it; once it's working properly it's amazingly effective!), kills two annoyances with one browser upgrade.

Oh, and also download Ad-Aware ( www.lavasoftusa.com ) and run it to get rid of all the spyware that's probably responsible for a lot of your pop-ups, and is spying on you besides...

Oh, there's a solution, use a browser that has integrated ads.

I use ad muncher It not only blocks popups, but can stop filtering on specified sites (so your PM alert box shows up on Head-Fi), remove right-click disablers, remove internet advertisements from all internet accessing programs you run, force address bars on windows, hide referers, block browser versions, the list goes on and on. Best it is only 150KB.

I use Norton Internet Security ($35 at Costco and worth every penny). It shows you how many ads it has stopped since installing it and I'm up to 2000 in just one month! It blocks 6 alone on yahoo mail each and every time I go there.

I run ad aware too, once a week and it manages to find some spyware on my system, but not as much as without NIS installed.
