I plan on purchasing the Sony MDR 7506 for casual gaming and listening to all genres of music, mostly rock and alternative.  I can get a pair for $50.  I am also getting the AudioTechnica ATH AD700x for competitive gaming (I play a lot of counter-strike and other competitive fps).  I've heard that the AD700x is basically the best in terms of soundstage, locating direction of sounds, etc. for competitive gaming.  I can pick up a pair for $130.  So for a total of $180, I'm making my first jump into actually good quality headphones and I'm really excited.  But before I click buy do you recommend any alternatives that would better suit me, for a similar price?

Thanks

Be leery of a Sony 7506 for just $50. If it is new, then it is probably fake, unless the store has a great reputation and this is a special promotion. Even if it is used it might be fake. The 7506 will make your ears very hot, unless you change the earpads to velour ones.
