My budget is ~$100.
I was looking at the ATH AD 700 reviews and read that they weren't for bassheads.

What kind of cans should I get if I listen to lots of different kinds of music? I want bass for rap but don't want too much for other kinds of music.

Alesandro ms1. Best headphone for under 100, and it is pretty unanimously agreed, throughout head-fi that it is the best for under 100. It costs 99 dollars on their website, and that includes shipping, and you can get it with a mini plug. Since head-fi rarely agrees on anything, that is a sign. Do a search for 100 dollars, and you will find the ms1 mentioned over and over again.

If you want anything more specific then that, you'll have to say more. but considering that it looks like it's your first headphone purchase, you cant go wrong the the MS1.

eh, its partly a function of most newbs always say they want bass, want unamped, generally want to spend <$100, and want comfortable. I've tried out a lot of headphones, and I've yet to run into a headphone that does those specific things better than the D1001 for under $100. If somebody specifically says they want detail or want to sound like they're right there in the concert, I'll usually recommend AD700's or SR80i's.

I'll actually go out on a limb and suggest the JVC HA-RX900s. They run lower than the mentioned headphones ($60) but if your willing to do a little modding will sound just as good if not better than the D1001's( search the forums, pretty well liked so far). Though the Alessandro's are rather nice.......
