My brother is looking to get a pair of closed headphones for around $200 for games/movies and all types of music. He prefers a darker/warmer sound with good bass that is still fairly balanced. He narrowed it down to the A900 and DT250. He can get the DT250 for about $50 less than the A900 so he is leaning toward it. Any opinions on which would suit him more. Thanks.

marcus at the headphonic forums prefer the dt250s sound to the a900s but the a900s are easier to drive. The a900s are OK sounding overall.

I played some Metal Gear 3 with a900s I got from Red. Positioning is great, I could hear soldiers walking and beehives buzzing from miles away.

I have a DT250-80 and I had an A900 for a few months, and had a chance to try the two back to back.

I actually think the DT250 bass goes deeper. The A900 - and mine had A1000 pads on them - has somewhat polite bass, and it doesn't go particularly low. The bass quantity on the DT250 is slightly more, or maybe the same -- the DT250 certainly isn't as bassy as other closed beyers.

The hole in the A900 midrange - right around middle C - also annoyed the heck out of me, which is why i sold them.

Add to the expense of the A900 the fact that the stock A900 pads are of sub-Koss quality and will require replacement within a year due to flaking vinyl. A1000 pads are much better and will cost you about $40 shipped.

I too had both the A900 and DT250 and I agree with ericj about the DT250's bass. It is able to go deeper and there is slightly more "oomph"? I felt that the music from the DT250 had more presence but you can't go wrong with either. Sold off the DT250 as I preferred the comfort offered by the A900 =) That's my only reason.

Thanks. How about differences in soundstage since he wants to use them for gaming/movies.
