Well I asked a couple weeks ago about which headphones you would recommend for using at home (closed or open) that cost about $100 and could be run straight out of my Karma (encoded in FLAC). Since then (with y'alls help) I've narrowed it down to the Audio Technica ATH-A500s and the AKG K240s. Out of those two which would y'all recommend? I'm not planning on buying an amp anytime soon (and if I did it would be in addition to better headphones so neither of these would use it). I listen to rock, pop, rap, and trance. Thanks.

I have both and could compare them using my wife's iriver mp3 player if it will help. I've only used them amped so far, and in that situation the K240S sounds better to me. Both of them are great for the genres you list.

I think the A500 might be your better choice as far as being played from a Karma. My iHP-120 pushes a pretty good amount of volume into these phones.
