Anyone know if the ATH-A1000's pads are velour, and if they are, will they fit on the A500? Audio Cubes has some pads for $50, and I really would consider checking it out, but only if I can take these pleather pads off and put the A1000s on easliy.

I would need to know how to do it as well, because I really value my A500s, so I don't want to incur any damage. Also, would it get rid of the sweat that I get from these at all? I don't want to be getting something that's pointless, heh.

The A1000 pads will fit. (The Wxxxx pads will NOT fit without major modifications, whatever people tell you on this board). The A1000 pads are synthetic leather. They feel less soft to the skin than the HP-A900 pads fitted to the A500, but they 'breathe', which means they feel a bit cooler through long-term wearing. If you like 'least contact' with your ear and pad, you might have issues with the A1000 pads as they have a smaller hole for the ear than the HP-A900.

So, it's a smaller hole for your ear? I have kinda big ears, and the A500 is just perfect in size, so I woulnd't want a smaller hole. What about the Beyerdynamic DT 880's pads? how much bigger/smaller is the pad and where can I get it, and how much do they cost? I am pretty sure that they are soft, plush velour, which would be perfect.

Yes. The ear hole is narrower. They do 'breathe' as I said, and even if there's contact you might prefer them. Obviously the only thing you can do really is to try them, but I do remember them being fairly bearable although you do still sweat, whereas the HP-A900 can get a bit sticky pretty quickly in hot weather.

The pad 'lips' on the 880 would be too small. You might be able to get them to just hang on, but the pads may fall off rather a lot.

Well, I decided to not get them because I have bigger priorities right now, and I really don't want a smaller cup hole, so I'll wait for when I have money to burn so I can just check them out.

The AIR series of open AT headphones use thick velour pads ... could these be transplanted onto the A500? Would it hurt the seal?

No, AD series pad is the same size as W series, too small for A series. As for seal, I actually tried velour pad on W1000 and it loses the seal, making whole sound lighter (which I didn't like at all).
